| It is not clear whether these pastoral crewel work'd scenes were ever made up originally as valances. One finds many remade to serve this purpose from what appear to have been petticoat borders. We have made quite a few over the years. Customers like them best for their lively appearance and ability to add color and interest to rooms filled with a mix of period and reproduction furnishings. Although many period embroidered valances appear to have been unlined, we recommend lining them as protection from light and dust.
A similar, delightful landscape valance can be made in the exact length to fit your specifications. It can be finished up to 15” tall and about 60” wide. The lining material is fine weight natural colored linen fabric and the edges are trimmed with a narrow edging of wool twill tape (in a vegetable dyed color of your choice). |
