Doll in Period Dress: Servant |
| Linen, cotton, wool |
| approx. 14 inches tall |
| |
| This is not intended as a reproduction of a period doll, per se; rather, it is a cloth versions of a period doll with miniature reproduction clothing. Each garment has been made as period doll clothing was—considerably smaller than full size, but retaining a surprising amount of detail. The removable clothing is held in place with straight pins—as women’s clothing often was before buttons came into regular use.
Dressed in a typical 18th century housewife's garb, this doll features a hand-painted linen body & handmade clothes: removable linen shift, leather stays, linen petticoat, cotton shortgown, & linen cap. Her hair is made of vegetable dyed wool/mohair yarn and her body is firmly stuffed with washed raw wool. |
