Bags like this were (and still are!) perfect for containing a small handwork project like a pair of socks or piece of embroidery and the materials to make them. In times past, women who went visiting would require a small sack like this to protect the handwork that accompanied them, but they were often used at home as well, for the sake of keeping the work tidy between sessions of sewing. |
